Spherical egg

This morning I found this in the coop! A near perfect sphere, I posted it to reddit and a few people said it could be a sign the bird is unwell, I haven't been able to find a source for that anywhere, just that it is extremely rare. Anyone know if the hen is ok? She is visibly fine

That's an interesting looking egg! There are some causes of egg deformities etc here: Common egg quality problems

I had one of those last year, it was small and I think it came from a new laying hen, it was her first, the next day she laid a perfect one.

What shape egg does this bird usually lay?
I have a few that lay pretty round eggs, can be hard to tell where the air cell is.
Could just be a glitch...I wouldn't worry about it unless bird appears ill.

Ive had this happen. The hen who layed it layed normal the next day though. I'd assume just a glitch in her system but it wouldn't hurt to monitor her for changes

I wonder if they lay them to look like the golf balls people put in the nest boxes.
Image they say to themselves, "I might have a go and laying one of those myself."
