spike of 104 :( ~ Set on Monday 2.6.12 Who'd like to join me??

Thank you. :) We all keep going into the hall closet (where the incubator is) and cooing at them. We've never had chicks before. They are so cute to watch!

I hope my "horror story" was reassuring to you. =P These guys are worth every bit of stress they caused me the last 20 days!

We have ours in a rabbit cage. They are under a light in the living room. :) We love watching them zip around. We'll be watching TV and all of a sudden my dh will start laughing at something they're doing.

They're a riot. They either are all eating or they're all passed out under the lamp. LOL

Oh, and I caught my dh with a flashlight checking the bator settings. :)

How sweet! I love that your hubby enjoys them! My dad, I think likes the fact that we like it. He's not prone to showing excitement so it's hard to tell. I at least talked him into watching #4 hatch.

So do you have some in the bator and in the brooder?

I had ordered some from MM hatchery. I lost 17 of them. :( They were mostly the ornamentals. Well, they told me that they're sending me 29 more chicks this weekend.

At first I was excited. Then I did a head count of what I had. I still have about 17 chicks. I had only ordered 30 in the first place. So, they sent extras anyway. ( I'm suspicious that the ones with lil blue marks are roos)

While I awaited my chicks my bantam hen laid me three eggs. Her first.

I knew that the chicks and eggs were expected on Monday so on Sunday I put the bantam eggs in. heehee.

Yeah, did I mention that I had ordered 19 eggs to hatch?? They're silkies.

So, the eggs and the chicks arrived on the same day. The chicks were really having a rough time and three days later I had lost the 17.

They told me to call Wed with the total loss. I did expecting to get a refund and the lady was so nice and compassionate and said "We're just going to send out a whole new order to you honey." I was shocked.

I readily accepted. *duh* Now I've done a head count and I'm like... if I get these chicks and the majority live, then the others hatch......

Oh boy. I'm gonna have to add on to the coop. LOL

Here's a pic of my lil survivors. They are so happy that they now nap on their sides.... nothing like freaking me out after such a huge chick loss. LOL

What cuties! They are so fluffy!

I'm glad that MM has taken care of you! You could always sell them if you end up with too many. ;) Too many is definitely better than not enough!

We have 17 so far. :D

it happenes to me as well. once you think you have it all figured out and you finally take your eyes off the bator and something seems to go wrong. however this has happened to me 4 times and i always ended up with chicks or duckilings. I have a huge hatch of 40+ eggs going on right now due to hatch around march 2nd. however we are using a homemade fridge incubator that needs some tweaks so we will see what i end up with

You know, I wondered how a fridge would work. Did you just take an old one and turn it into a bator? That would be awesome! Do let us know how that works. I'd love to see pics of it.
