Spin off: What's the LEAST you've spent on a chicken? :)

I realize this is "$0" and doesn't count... but I just had to share this story....

At the last poultry show I was at, an elderly gentleman puts up a sign that says "Free Silver Duckwing OEGBs". I decide it must be just a couple of mean roosters, but I still ask to see the birds.
The guy says "they're all out in the back of my truck, but you're welcome to them".
I think "great, it's a lot of roosters! And, now I'm going to feel obliged to take at least one no matter how mean they are!"
Well, I follow him outside, and when he opens his truck, what greets me but 5 pairs of the most gorgeous, sweetest Game Bantams I have seen to this day!
Of course, I took them all

Oh, the hens are laying, and I now have their eggs in the incubator

(It's ok...bantams don't live long at my house anyway!

) Glad they're working out for you!!!

NONONONONO!!! LOL!

Like I said...bantams don't last long at my place. I'm actually lucky the silkies have lived for what...3 months at my house?

Nobody gonna help with the chicken chain?? I thought Jade said she would get them when she came up to Jacob's Cave? Maybe I read that wrong, let me ask her!

I have gotten chicks for 30 cents each at the local poultry auction and the least I have paid for a laying hen is $3.50, there also.

$1.80 for my New Hampshires and 1.50 for Dominickers,$2.00 for Speckles Sussex, and $2.50 for my Silkies.
