Splash pullet...what breed(s) am I?

Okay..if it is a Cornish X, should I be prepared for her to just die off suddenly? I have read some ugly ernet about people thinking they are getting rocks or leghorns and end up with cornish X's. She doesn't seem to be any bigger than the other girls I bought with her that he said all came to him at the same time. Will she even lay eggs if she is a cornish X???

shouldn

no she wont die all of a sudden. i raised cornish cross meat birds b4 but they were bred for just meat and died early cuz they grew so quick. urs looks like just a common cornish cross, idk what she could b crossed with. She should lay eggs, dnt c y she wouldnt. lol hope this helps. i could b wrong on hur breed

Oh Stephanie...I really hope you are wrong about her. I just would hate to see that happen. She is roughly 20 weeks old in that picture. I really really hope she is something else....any other ideas anyone????

shes over 3 moths old so im sure ur past the stage where they die, so i wouldnt worry. Meat birds raised form like fost. er farms usully die in the 3rd mont, like mine did. soo i wouldnt worry. she should live a good long healthy life. but anyone else have ideas on a breed because i could be wrong

I don't think that poster was saying that she was a meat cross(cornish crossed with rock).
Just that she looked like a cross with cornish.
I would imagine there would be lots of those crosses that wouldn't necessarily mean a shorter life, or health trouble.
I would agree that if she were a meat cross, she would not still look like that(like a normal sized chicken) at nearly 20 weeks.

Hope that helps!

She's cute, by the way.

I think she is cute too...I hope you are right too, that she is just a mutt of some kind, but not with a meat bird. Now that I have been thinking more and more about that guys farm, he had over 1500 birds...and most of them free range. But I also recall him saying that he sends the meat birds to slaughter quite often and so it is likely that he sends them to slaughter before they are even sexually mature. I hope she starts laying soon and will live a long healthy life with the rest of her sister hens.

If you still have the contact information for the seller, it might be your best bet.

IMO, she really doesn't look Cornish or X. Cornish are very sturdy with a wide stance, have a pea comb and are hard feathered. She looks pretty fluffy with a straight comb to me. I was thinking Splash Rock (even though Blue Rocks are very uncommon) because it made the most sense given her leg color. The other choice I thought of was an Orpington (very common on the front range) but her legs are yellow.

She is very pretty, whatever she is! Let us know if you get a hold of the seller to see if he hatches his own eggs or got her from a breeder or something along those lines. If she is a cross, I guess I'd throw BBS Orpington into the equation!

Well I have sent an email of inquiry to the fella I bought them from, hopefully I will get a response from him at some point. I think I am paranoid now...LOL...I was just out there to collect eggs and she seemed sooooo big...I am sure it is all in my head.

I will let you know if I hear from the seller.

she looks like an austra white to me (austalorpXWhite leghorn)
or maybe austra white crossed with rock
just to add more to the confusion.

Looks like you were right. I got an email back from the seller this morning and he said she is an Austra-white. yeah...so glad to know she is not a meat bird.
