Splayed Leg Quail Chick, HELP

:hugs You'll need some fine scissors to get under the bandaid and just keep doing tiny little snips until you've cut through it enough to peel it off the leg/s. You are doing what you can to help and that's all the little chick can ask of you. :hugs

Bad news. I went into the brooder box and found him lying there he is hardly opening his eyes. He was just a week chick. In the incubator he pipped on the point of the egg, and his head was in the point. Well next time I will incubate quail eggs I will get a new thermometer, and most likely a new incubator. This morning when I woke up the incubator temperature was going nuts. The temperature according to the thermometer was reading 97.5, to 101.5. That is a three degrees different!!:barnie:he

Anyway thank you for all of your help, I will keep you updated.:(

So sorry to hear this recent news. :(

You've done your best for the little guy. It must have some defects that are hindering its ability to progress and thrive.

Yes, temperature is so important, but humidity also affects temperature. I use 3 different temperature gauges, which all have different readings. So, I have learned to also look at the amount of condensation on the glass windows, along with the temperature.

Another good thing to do is put a plastic bottle of warmed water (cap on tightly), into the incubator. It helps to regulate the temperature. Then, when you have to put in a little water to raise humidity, the warm bottled water will keep the the temperature steady. Once you close the lid, the temperature raises quickly. I learned this tip online, but can't remember where.

Again, I am so sorry about the little chick.

God Bless :hugs

Last update: Yesterday the little guy was doing a little better. But last night he died. I went and looked in the brooder to find him laying there, dead. I know that this is apart of incubating eggs, but this was the first time it happened to me. Well thanks for all of your help.

The end of a precious little life is never easy. Even when it's expected, it's unexpected. :hugs

God Bless and peace to you. :(

I'm sorry. It's the tough part about raising babies. I know exactly how you feel. :hugs
