Splayed leg???

This is the best one I could find fast. They also benefit from butt cleanings to prevent pasty bum.

With a cup you want their legs under them and moveable. Think along the lines of a baby in a jumper, their legs are through holes so they can move them and increase muscle strength.

Thank you! You have helped so much. I'm going to start doing like in the photos you sent and hopefully he'll get better.

You also have to watch them fir signs of temperature distress. Since they can't move away or closer to a heat source it is gonna be up to you to watch for signs such as panting and shivering.

No problem! When the chick I shared with you earlier hatched with her toes curled, i freaked out and over-researched ways to help her if she couldn't stand. This also works for older birds with leg/foot injuries but they are far less happy about it lol. I had an older chick get a nail stuck on a ramp and when he freaked out he ripped his toenail off. The cup idea worked to heal his toe, but I also had to tie his wings because he had flight feathers and did not appreciate my help. Good luck with your luttle guy. I would also try some physical therapy with it. Try to help him use his legs every day to speed healing and proper development. Also, you can keep the cupped chick with your other chicks. Birds that flock are super social, and isolation can freak them out or make them act oddly. Birds need friends lol.

Hi, thanks for all the information. Unfortunately, I have a heat plate rather than a heat lamp which means I can't keep him in the cup while he's under there. I've been doing physical therapy with him where I've been putting him in a cup and he's been kicking to get his legs strong. I've done that twice for about half an hour. Tomorrow, I'm going to try to find a heat lamp I can buy for him so that he can stay in a cup for much longer. I'll pick one of the quails out of my other ones to stay with him and he should start getting better. Thank you so much!
