Splayed Leg

Well, it looks like he's doing a split, but instead of a sideways one it's front to back.

I'm pretty sure my keet has a rotated femur and not a splayed leg. What should I do?

Wow... that's um... the worst I have ever seen a keet's leg rotated before! I'd have to say it's either severely rotated or has been broken or dislocated up at the hip joint.

I would put him down humanely, unless you want to spend big dollars and have an avian vet check him out, and then decide to have the vet put him down or try to fix the keet.

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this, and sorry that little keet has to go thru it too.

I'm sorry to hear about your keet..

From what I have read, one of the best ways is to place the keet in a zip lock bag & place in your freezer. They will go to sleep & expire..

That's a hard question to answer, and one I try to avoid answering because every body has their own (and usually very sensitive) opinions about every way out there that has ever been suggested as the right way/best way to do this difficult deed... some quickly cut the heads off with a sharp pair of scissors or shears, some use blunt force to the head, some use the freezer method, some use starting fluid/ether on a rag and put the keet in a sealed container, some use car exhaust in a sealed container, some take their keets to a vet, etc etc etc. All are horrible things to have to experience and follow thru with, and there's always a huge margin between what's the best way for the keet and what's the quickest and easiest for the individual that is putting the keet down (no fine line IMO). Of course doing it as humanely and as quickly as you can is always the best way for the keet... but not always that easy/doable for the poultry keeper. So whatever works for you personally (and your conscience) is going to be up to you.

Why does it have to die? I think that's horrible....kill because a bad leg, doesn't sound fair at all....

My guinea fowl walks on his knees and I see no reason to put him down. If you tie your ones legs together like for straddle foot the he might be able to shuffle along.
