My first batch of quaiIs was only 12, but out of the 12, 2 had splayed legs. I was able to observe the hatching and noticed the slippery floor of the incubator appeared to be the problem. I set another lot and as soon as I noticed the chipping of the eggs I put a rubberised non slip matting in the incubator and again observed the hatching. Not one chick out of 21 developed splayed legs. Worth a try.

You figured it out...it is best to keep some sort of non-skid material in the brooders til they get their sea-legs.
