Splayed legs

My chicken has hatched 3 chicks - now 1 day one, i removed one as had splayed legs, have used the hairband/straw method, can I pop back under mum or should I keep separated?

I'd separate him, preferably with another chick, as they are social creatures, because if left outside, the straw and hairband might come off.
