I have a rooster with a split beak. He's about 3 years old, and I've recently split my flock, so he's in with a dozen hens and one other rooster who is super chill. So there's not really fighting or anything in their coop.
I just noticed tonight that his beak is split, and I don't know if I should trim the split bit, or do a teabag patch, or leave it for now at this point.
He's often out in the field with his lady, but due to avian flu getting a little close for comfort they are inside. I don't know if his beak perhaps softened from frequent pecking in the mud, and then split when he was switched to eating out of dishes all the time...?
He's eating, but seems a little bummed. Any advice on how aggressively I should treat this right now would be appreciated.
His name is Spur, by the way :~)
