Split beak?

Today I noticed one of my hens had a split beak. There is no blood and she appears to be eating fine. Is her beak overgrown? Can I file it? Here is a photo

It may be overgrown, but it would be easier to note from the side view. I think you can use a nail file to smoothe it. Here is a good article on beak trimming and repairing damaged beaks, and a thread to read:
