I hatched some chicks last week and tonight while I was watching them, I noticed a couple of them are starting to develop a split-comb. I have always purchased pullets before this hatch, so I am unsure if this is normal or not......or maybe breed or sex sensitive?

The roo is a Houdan X and the hens are RIR. Some chicks did get the 5-toes, but the split-comb so early??? Anyone have any comments on this?

Split? Do you mean a rose comb? Sorta looks like two combs coming up side by side with a small space between them?

Like this girl on the left...the SLW...sorta looks like an upside down "v".

Yes, Cetawin! Just exactly like that!!
Well...you learn something new everyday!! I have some chicks with 5 toes, and some without. Some with V-shaped combs, and some without!!

Aren't genetics crazy???
