Don't forget to wait to introduce vaccinated chicks to the flock. It takes a little while for their bodies to produce antibodies to the Mareks. If they are around any infected chickens before they are immune, then it won't work.

I thought that it had to be used within an hour after being diluted. Here is the label on the 1000 dose vial to read:

Strombergs sell it cheaper than Valleyvet, but they say it is on backorder since they cannot get it from the manufacturer.
You have to buy syringes and needles separately, and a foam cooler with ice packs for guaranteed safety during shipment.

It does have to be used within an hour. I've heard of folks breaking the vaccine down before reconstitution and being able to use fewer doses at a time. I'm just not 100% sure how to do it

Most of the literature I have read says to keep them away from dust and dander of Mareks for at least 2 weeks, and 3 is better. By then they should be fully immune. Some people in the US and some in Europe give a second dose for better chances.

I break the disc in approximate fourths in the vial so I never touch the disc with my hands.. you need a sharp knife or tiny tiny scissor to do this..


I then mix it with 1/4 bottle of solution... I use a syringe to pull out 1/4th and mix the quarter disc with it...

I mix them in a clean sterile used solution jar..

It works for me... I know it is most likely not legal and some will find fault with this...

I have not had Maraks since I started doing this...

I also do not vaccinate at exactly one day... I do keep them away from other birds until 14 days after I vaccinate.
