Split nail on duck

Our clumsy pekin has started limping a bit and was slow to come up from the pond this evening then just laid down in the pen. Grabbed him to check his feet and legs and noticed he has a split nail. No blood but the nail is completely separated from around the quick in 3 pieces vertically separated. The end of the nail is broken off. I saw there are a bunch of posts on this for chickens but with it split like it is there is no clipping the pieces off without leaving an exposed quick about 1/2" long! Any advice?! He is already on an antibiotic for an infection in the other leg so hopefully it won't get infected.

Make sure the split is clean and dry. This is very important because the next suggestion will encapsulate any thing you leave in the split.
Carefully use a drop of wound glue to seal the split. It can be found in the first aid section at your pharmacy.
Wound glue is like super glue so put on a rubber glove or use a tissue to separate your fingers from the nail. The tissue will later wear off.
This may be a two person job as the glue may sting a little but sets quickly.

Our vet did this for one of our dogs that had partially torn a toenail.

Soaked his foot last night and glued the nail, unfortunately at some point in babying the foot it seems like he has twisted his ankle! There is always something with him!

He twisted his ankle? Like, how badly? It might be time to take him to the vet, hun. At the very least they can give you some antiinflammatory to help the tissues heal.

Not really sure what's he's done, he's big and clumsy. He is already on an antibiotic and I still had anti-inflammatories from his other leg so he is on them again.
