Splitting pen

I have 5 adult ducks, who I pen up at night. I would like to create a barrier within the same pen to brood the ducklings. My question is if the barrier is 18 inches high should I plan to put a top on to prevent other ducks from jumping in or will they likely be fine. Hoping to be able to use the brooder plate instead of a lamp.

I would put wire on top. At least with my ducks, they think the chick starter is like liquid gold and they get in there and eat the crap out of it, and you don't want a drake in a small enclosure with ducklings.
