Spoiled chickens?

I live in northern Minnesota and our winters get very cold. I read that cracked corn as a treat is good for the birds because it warms them up fast. I'll throw out a cup or so of chicken scratch in the morning. I spread it out on the deep bedding in the chicken coop and the chickens will scratch and peck the litter, turning it over, keeping it fresh as the soiled litter works its way to the bottom. I have their main feed hanging in the coop in a 5 gallon PVC bucket feeder 24/7.

Where I live, our chicken scratch now costs as much as our commercial feed. Maybe that is a good thing because you don't save any money by giving your chickens treats that way. But I agree that your posts seems to indicate that maybe you are too generous with your treats, and ultimately, that is not good for your flock.
