Spoiled House Rooster

I was just looking into chicken hierarchy on other threads and a google searches. I see what you mean by his displays and mounting things infront of me. I'm actually working with him now with several shoes on the floor not allowing him to mount them, and I will no longer allow the dance (despite its cuteness).
I understand that he can do damage to people with his beak, despite his diminutive size (of 2 1/2 pounds), but I have not allowed his spurs to develop and his nails are always dremelled round.
For now at least this gives me something to work on in the hopes I can modify his behavior working with his instincts.
It makes sense to me now why he never goes after the kids, they love to pick him up and are always following after him and scooping him up if they can. If he even thinks about humping a shoe in their presence he gets chased off or scooped up.
Animal behavior is facinating!
Thanks for all your help!

Never mind I just looked it up! Basically cropping their comb like our Dobermans ears are (except less pointy

I do not recommend culling him l have had very many mean roosters that l have broke of that bad habit if he is a year to a year and a half than it is probably just puberty if not I would get a spray bottle and when ever he acts aggressive spray him

I suggest you check out "people with house chickens," and ask if others have a problem similar to yours. I would heed junebuggena's advice. Once their hormone's rage, they become entirely different beasts.

I will definitely take all your advice into consideration. All animals have the potential to injure people, especially kids so I'm not trying to make light of the fact that he is capable. I will change how I interact with him, and arm my husband with the knowledge and a spray bottle! And I'll keep you all posted!

Good luck to you & your family with Chickadee. He is a handsome guy and I hope he grows up to be a sweet one.
