Spoiled little velociraptors

My sister's broody hatched 6 eggs, and when she came off the nest we discovered that she had stashed 14 more!

I candled them and found 5 that might hatch, so I brought them into my incubator. Three were rotten. I think another is dead but I'm still waiting.

One hatched day before yesterday, but she's a week behind the others. This broody has never rejected a chick, so I gave this little girl to the broody last night.

The mom seemed confused at having an extra chick, but no pecking or aggressive behavior.

I'm on my way over to see how they did.

Not sure they bonded, but the chick is following the group. Mom seems mostly indifferent, but she obviously let the baby sleep with the others because it's not lethargic or chilled.

I give my chickens worms--not interested. Caterpillars. They turn up their noses. And this morning, melon.

Nope. Not touching that!

Mine love fruit and the sweeter vegetables. They also enjoy a mash most mornings. Everyone runs to find a feeder when I take it out in the morning.

Blueberries and grapes are top tier with our BO’s. Followed closely by BSFL, sunflower seeds, watermelon, and cantaloupes.

Mine used to love EVERYTHING!
The pullets would turn over backwards for a bag of grass clippings… now, they are at least 70% free ranged, and apparently have developed tastes…. They won’t touch an earthworm, they sort of dig through the grass, but they never eat it, they are scared of all caterpillars.
They still love all scraps I give them, but just seem pickier than they used to be.
