Spokane Valley reconsidering chicken ordinance 1/27/11

I'm brand new here but just thrilled to throw out the info that the Spokane Valley Planning Commission is going to have a meeting this Thursday night to consider changing the law here to be more chicken-friendly. I just found this out today and would like to encourage any and all chicken lovers (in-laws and out-laws) to attend and show their support if you live here. I know I have at least one BYC "neighbor" who wrote a wonderful and compelling letter to the Commission in support of backyard chickens. Keep a good thought!

Hey, would you mind letting me know how that went? I know the meeting on Thursday was a "study session" and closed to comment, but I'm very interested to hear what was said. Unfortunately, being in Pullman for school makes it impossible for me to attend these meetings.

I'd also love to hear back from someone when the Feb 10 meeting is over, since discussion is allowed for that meeting....

I too am happy, happy, happy that we can now own chickens in Spokane Valley! Our Lil Peepers are anxiously awaiting their coop to be completed, so they can be big girls outside!

neighbor!! As I get around I'm seeing more and more coops popping up - it's great!

I always mention BYC whenever the conversation turns to chickens - this is the best place for learning and teaching, so you've come to the right place. I lurked for about a year until I dove in....the shavings are fine

Why oh why can't the county get on board to match Spokane Valley?! If you live in Spokane Valley, be an advocate for your neighbors in unincorporated Spokane County and write the county commissioners to get them to legalize backyard chickens. I showed up to Spokane Valley city council meetings to help further the cause there, but my girls in Greenacres are still illegal and it totally stresses me out!

By any chance are you the one who posted the question about owning chickens on the facebook page "Spokane Area Chicken Ordinances"? If so, I would have answered sooner, but the next door neighbor who hates my chickens and has probably called the county on me, found that page and probably checks it from time to time to see what we "backyard chicken" advocates are up to. If she saw me post it would probably aggravate her...

Hope she hasn't discovered me on this forum...
