First, there are no set rules besides both words have to be actual words after switching letters. Just spell it like it sounds !
Now that you know what a Spoonerism is, Here’s my situation ….. My brain does this automatically with virtually everything I think or hear. I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember, at least half a century, and have had a million laughs along the way !
I’ll give you a lesson on how my brain works, and then see what you can come up with !
For the very basic Spoonerism, you simply switch the first letter or two of each word ….. These are what I call alphabetical Spoons ….. Hiking Boots become Biking Hoots, a Pot Hole becomes a Hot Pole, and a Reach in your Pocket, produces a Peach in your Rocket ! These are examples of switching just the first letters of each word. With these, the words often spell out correctly.
Doubles are when you switch the first two letters of either one, or both words ….. Nooks and CRannies become CRooks and Nannies, SPeed Racer turns into a Reed SPacer, and TRail SNacks become SNail TRacks ! These are very similar to the phonic below.
Along with the alphabetical are the phonic, or transposing the actual phonetic sound of the first few letters of each word. These rarely spell out correctly, but sound correct when spoken ….. Hunting GRound becomes GRunting Hound, Motion Lights are Lotion Mites, and a Pretty Girl becomes a Gritty Pearl !
There are other types of Spoonerisms, (at least in my brain) maybe I’ll address those later, but these are the basics to get your brain working, and have some giggles.
