I have 4 "sportzington" chicks that hatched under a broody last week. A sportzington is my term for a Appenzeller spitzhauben and orpington cross. I kept an accidental hatch from last year and she's smaller than an orpington, but lays orpington sized eggs. My hen went broody right as I separated the two breeds to different pastures.:thFive chicks hatched, but I've got to give this gal at least one to raise.

Let me know if any of you Illinois guys are interested.

One chick is much harder for a hen to raise in my experience... the babies learn from each other.

Just let her keep them all and adopt them once she boots them instead of stealing them from her, is my suggestion.

Honestly I would NEVER take a broody hatched chick... especially while she is still brooding. .. just too many chances for disease and such that hasn't been noticed or reared it's ugly head yet in the donor flock. But I know we all have different thought processes.

Good luck! :fl
