Hi, rabbit owners! We found a female domesticated bunny in our yard on Thursday (June 24) and have been caring for her until she goes to a more experienced foster mom on Monday. Tonight, we came home and found a few spots of blood in her litter. Any ideas? She’s definitely female, but we’ve read that rabbits don’t bleed when heat. We have no idea if she’s fixed or not. She’s been eating a diet of Timothy Hay, carrot tops (just the greens), raddichio, about 1TBSP of alfalfa pellets a demY, and a few very small treats like a bit of carrot (the orange part), apple, strawberry, as in one berry on Monday, then a small slice of apple on Tuesday, etc- no treat overload, as far as I know... Any ideas and what level of concern should we be at? Bun is moving fine, eating and drinking and pooping, and is not lethargic. Thanks!

Check the toenails and see if one broke
Thank you- will do

update- all nails seem fine, no visible blood anywhere and no pain when I gently press paws and nails.
I read online about pigmented urine- she’s had a couple red beet stems over the last few days. Could that be enough to pigment her urine?

One day (back when I was younger and we raised rabbits) one of our rabbits gave birth at night. Only a few died. She ended up dieing cus she had a heart attack cis of lightning and thunder.

You would not really see it because they clean it up quite well, also I don’t think they bleed until they are giving birth
Or if their bodies are aborting, I would imagine, but I would expect more blood if that were the case. Bun seems totally fine and was actively hopping and running around the house this evening like nothing was wrong, so that’s good, but I still don’t know what happened. We’ll see if it happens again.
