I have 25 chicken 15 Buffs and 10 NHR's. my question is what causes brown spots on egg yokes? I cracked open a egg this morning and it had several brownish spots on the yoke. They just started laying within the last month. Is this normal and are they safe to eat or should I not eat them.

Safe. It's likely a blood spot or part of the reproductive tract sloughing off. It's animal protein so edible.
Those things happen from time to time and especially with pullets.

Every now and then, a capillary in the hen's ovary will rupture when it releases a yolk. Nothing to worry about. You never see it in commercial eggs because they're candled, separated and usually sold to bakeries or processed food manufacturers.
