I have a Buff oprington that lays speckled eggs but I've been getting these eggs lately.. is it blood. It washes off as you can see .. the spot on the side I washed. The red spots are so perfectly uniformed is why I didn't at first think it was blood, but spots don't wash off if it's part of the breed of the hen.. if she lays speckled eggs etc. What can it be caused from.. what should I do to help her if it is blood.

It is not blood it is a pigment discoloration. Brown pigment dose wash off. These eggs are common in new layers and if it is hot where you live or if the hen has under gone stress lately it can cause this.

As you have already received some great advice, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
