Thanks for the info! I was hoping it wasnt anything bad but she really seems to struggle to stay standing up and doesn't seem to want to move too much. I'll take a look at that link.

Hi everyone. I have a four week old coturnix quail that has severe spraddle legs. I assume it happened because the person that sold her to me didn't have sufficient flooring in her enclosure. She seemed fine and within a few days she couldn't get to her food and water. I've braced them and put her up to the food and water which she accepts readi ly. I've never seen a case this severe...any feedback? Thanks

I was told as long as they are eating and drinking, they will be fine in a couple of weeks. ibhope it straightens out!

Poultry vitamins that include riboflavin and thiamine can be valuable in helping with leg problems. It can take 4-5 days for a chick to strengthen leg muscles after you hobble them. There are many good threads about splay leg treatment if you do a search at the top of this page or Google it.

Welcome to BYC. She might have a leg bone deformity called varus valgus deformity or another one. A slipped tendon is included in some of these problems, but if it has been thios way for awhile, it is probably a deformity. Here is some information about this:

I agree with Eggcessive's advice.

Just have a question though, in your photos, does the inside of the hock have a bruise/lesion area or is that just a shadow?

It looks like it is a bruise because there looks like some discoloration under the skin.

Looking at her this morning her left leg seems to be the leg that is really affected. It points out left really far.
