This chick (Barred Rock) was born yesterday before 8:30 p.m. It had a hard time hatching, and I was almost ready to help it but I didn't. Well, now the chicks right hip looks to be out of joint and with it the leg points out to the side. Is the spradled leg or something else. My husband assures me that it will grow out of it, but if not, what can I do to help straighten it? It is only the right hip joint and leg.
Here are a few pics .....................

Here is a video. I had to get them to move around for this............. the video will take a few seconds to start.

I need some advice of what I can do to help the little chick.

For spraddle/splayed legs take a band aid and cut it lengthwise. Wrap one sticky side around one leg and then wrap the other sticky side around the other legs so that the pad part of the bandaid is between the chicks legs.

Your goal is to pull the legs into a normal position.

Leave the bandaid on until it comes off and then check to see how it is doing - re-brace is necessary.

Also, be sure your chick is housed on paper towels, or even rubber shelf liner so it can get good footing. Avoid newspaper or any other slick type of bedding.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not... 2-3 days should show a good improvement with the braces if it is going to work, but a little longer won't hurt to see what happens.

Hope he makes it !
