We are new chicken owners and today was the big day! The arrival of our chicken's went even better than I had hoped. They are all super sweet and calm!

They are Buff Orpingtons - the "teddy bears of the chicken world" - and their reputation has born out! They are super pretty and very mellow. Hopefully we will have eggs in the morning! I was worried they would be too stressed out but these birds seem like they have lived here forever.

So far only two have names: there is one hen who is very pretty and it seems as if she may be at the top of the "pecking order". I named her Marilyn after Marilyn Monroe, and that means that the Rooster had to be named Joe DiMaggio.

Nice looking birds. There may very well be eggs tomorrow (those already in the reproductive tract), but then they may take a bit of a break. Chickens hate change and frequently take a laying break after being moved to a new home.

Everything I read said it could take time before they are relaxed enough to lay, it's good to know that an egg tomorrow followed by no eggs for awhile won't be anything to be concerned about.

We had six eggs as of last night and three more this afternoon! I am pleasantly surprised. They are settling in very well.
