Sprained/Broken Duck Leg... Please Help

What are the ways to be able to tell the difference between an infection and a sprain?
And can a sprain/pull/fracture become infected?

I do not know, but if this started 3 weeks ago and it's getting worse now then something is up. You may need to try a splint. I made mine out of the Sam-e ( don't know if I spelled that right at all). Then wrapped in the vet wrap. You need to check often to make sure her foot is warm that way you know that blood is getting to it.

Also, I kept my duck away from my drake. I left her up for a few days then let her out and kept the drake up. She always ate too, never did get any loss of appetite. If she starts getting that then it's getting worse. Good luck and I hope she heals up soon!

Generally, if the leg is warm (warmer than the other leg), I believe that can be a sign of spreading infection. If it's a sprain, then the warmth would cool off after a day or two, yes? If there has been an injury involving a break in the skin, or bumblefoot, I think it would be more likely to be infection.

In any case, Epsom salt compress (E.s. is a laxative, don't let them drink it) can help.

I just want to thank everyone for all the advice and tips on this thread. Im new to having birds and my Pekin has a leg injury. I will keep an eye on my boy and give him pain meds and lots of love. I was frantic and in tears when I found him limping this morning. I am calmer now that I have read everyone's posts and such. I am so thankful for this group.
