Sprained Leg

If you can examine the leg well to look for redness or bruising and determine if the leg or foot is broken, you can use some splinting. This link is for birds of all sizes with a good picture of the skeleton, and where to splint:

If the leg or foot is just sprained, some rest and limited activity in a pen with food and water might be helpful. The enteric coated aspirin can be crushed and dissolve in water—add one 325mg tablet to each 8 ounces of water.

I removed the enteric coating from the aspirin when I gave the goose the aspirin so it would be better absorbed. Good to know that it wouldn't have hurt him. He's resting now, and I had to give him 50mg of aspirin in 1.5ml of water ( by a oral syringe because he refused to take it). I also gave him some food and he drank some more water. He is doing a little better but still is I pain.

A 5 pound chicken can have 81 mg 2-3 times a day, so he can have at least that much, or more depending on his weight. Let us know how he is getting along.
He was doing a little better about 1 or 2 hours after I gave him the aspirin and seems ok now. I'll give him another dose in the morning too. I think the aspirin helped a lot since when I gave him his dinner he hopped out of the pool and hurried to come and eat it.
He didn't like the taste of the aspirin. I wish I would have gotten a pic of the expression he had. He looked at me like it was the worst thing he's ever eaten and wasn't very happy with me.

Update: He is doing better today. He is still limping (which I expected), but is in less pain. He only needed one dose of aspirin today. When I tried to give him the aspirin with a oral syringe he saw it, got up, and hopped/tried to run away :lau. He must not like the taste of medicine. I did get him to take it disquised on some treats though, but he wasn't happy when he tasted the medicine on the treats either.

You might try putting it into a treat where he can’t taste it, such as some watery feed with yogurt, egg, some chopped liver, or my chicken’s favorite medicine hider—Friskies pate canned cat food. Peanut butter could be another possibility. Glad he is doing well.
