I have a goose that is 5 months. She looks to have a broken or sprained wing after flying away, we found her. What can I do at home humanely without taking her to the vet to support this? Or do we think she absolutely needs the vet?

Big difference between strain and a break, and where the break is also makes a huge difference in prognosis. Can she use/move the wing even if painful? Is the skin broken anywhere? Does it bend in a place or shouldn’t? Cage rest for 3-6 weeks may be enough to heal up a minor break in a young bird. A strain should heal in a week or so. A catastrophic break (bone sticking out of skin) will need antibiotics for 3 weeks and has a poorer prognosis.

Could you post a picture?
She is finally asleep after all the drama and I didn’t get to take a picture of her but I found a pic of what hers looks like. She can attempt to pull it up- looks like the middle of her wing is what’s messed up

she attempts to keep it up but ultimately it drags. Shoulder and bones aren’t popping out of skin, and also don’t feel deformed to touch. It’s not bending in a place it shouldnt. When we try to stretch it out, she can but winces a little.

She is very tired but getting up and walking. A little more lethargic. But she had flown- crash landed I’m guessing and was missing for 24 hours. I think she is in shock and finally resting. What can I do to wrap her wing and keep it up? I’m assuming she won’t fly again. And she isn’t really interested in eating right now. She will eat meal worms and drink water with electrolytes but I’m guessing that is what’s to be expected? I’m also giving her an anti inflammatory, caprofen that was for my ducks. Can you help more with this information and help guide me? I just don’t want her to have failure to thrive.
