spray color dye on feed?

someone told me that i could spray food coloring on the chicken food, and itll make them lay colored eggs.. is this true? if so, is it any way harmful to the chickens? i just thought it was funny and wanted to know if it was true

No, they won't lay colored eggs. You could very well get some downright lovely poop, however!!!!

i have three EE chicks that are about 4 weeks old. thats what got the nieghbor telling me about the dye.. i told her that i had EE that would lay colored eggs, and she said,,, well, i can get mine to lay colored eggs with food dye! yikes!

That sounds like something my DH would tell someone as a joke!

We had a girl ask how we got greenish-blue eggs, and he told her that we gathered the eggs and let them sit outside until they grew mold, then we wiped it off and the residue colored the shell that color.
She said she didn't want any green eggs!!!

* When I was a kid, my brother & I thought we were in huge trouble b/c we fed my grampa's chickens chocolate and the next day they laid brown eggs!!!
