Spraying Roundup???

dog gonnit i sprayed about 20 yards away from my coop and run but i started letting my 6 hens and 1 rooster free rang today. I'm back here with them keeping a good eye so they don't go into the areas that i sprayed. HELP . what should i do ?

The active ingredient in Round-Up is glyphosate and I caution you against categorizing it as just a salt. It has been shown to have some toxic effects on amphibians and it does not break down as it is purported to do, and while glyphosate on its own may not be that bad, other ingredients in the formula may enhance toxicity. It binds tightly to soil and can persist for up to six months. When sprayed regularly, weeds are developing a resistance to it thereby turning them in to "super weeds," wreaking havoc on large industrial farms where it is used regularly in conjunction with Round-Up-ready crops. All that said, I would encourage you to find an organic alternative or tolerating some weeds in your yard, but fully appreciate that you may not want to. Either way, I would not use it in an area where your chickens free range and be sure to keep a buffer between where you do use it in your yard and where your chickens hang out.

Dry or not, the herbicide is still on the plants, and they could injest it. I would never use Round Up, in the same area that you have free range chickens. I think that the pets that the bottle instructions mean, is cats and dogs, who do not tend to eat weeds..

Why not use a more natural herbicide, such as a salt and vinegar mix? You can also singe weeds using a tiger torch to kill them.

Do you know what the mix is for salt and vinegar? Is it Table salt? Any certain kind of vinegar? Will it kill blackberrys? I have a whole hill side of blackberrys I hate them and want them gone. I would love to do it without harming the songbirds ,lizards and frogs. There's many beautiful ferns trying to grow that the blackberrys keep choking out.

Roundup contain known carcinogens. It will harm your chickens, it will harm you, it harms the planet. Instead, spray with straight distilled white vinegar. Vinegar kills nearly everything green with one or two applications. It is not harmful to anything except the plants that get sprayed.
