I have read some of the topics on here about Avian Pox but i couldn't see any thing that covered the spreading of it. I read up about it online as my friends chickens have just come down with it and we are all hoping its the dry version. Any way i know the ways it can be spread normally but what i wanted to know is can it be carried by the sole of your shoe? She lets her birds roam around her garden and we often visit and now i'm worried that i could carry it to my house on my shoes and give it to my birds, does any one know if this is possible :S

If so do you think bleaching shoes could kill it? If it was just the dry version i wouldn't worry to much but its to early to tell and it could develop into the wet version.

Sorry for wittering on but i like to give the full picture

Yes it is possible. The scabs can and do fall off onto the ground, they are highly infective. You could easily pick one up on the bottom of your shoe and carry it back. You might consider vaccinating your flock, the mosquitos here are terrible already!

I don't know, but actually I would not be wearing the same shoes in my chicken yard and someone else's. Another flock could be carriers of a disease without showing any symptoms.

Chances are, your flock will get avian pox from mosquitoes, assuming that's how hers got it. It went through mine summer before last; not a problem, really.

Hope all goes well for both your flocks.

Thank you. I have an old pair of shoes i was going to throw out, i will save them for visits
