Spring 2011 RAISE-A-LONG!

OMG OMG how am I going to wait!!! Today I went to my local feeding store and put in a special order ( surprised at the number of breeds they have: some rare ones, including Nankins-uh-oh i might have a breeding project for next year!) for :
4 porcelain d' uccles
2 black silkies
2 white silkies
2 buff silkies
2 gray silkies
2 buff laced sebrights
2 silver-laced sebrights
2 gold-laced senrights

I am soooooooooo excited. They will not arrive until the end of april/early may though! IDK how i will stand the wait! Im hoping they will get here on my birthday (April 20th). Best of Luck to everyone else with their chicks!

I have 42 chicks coming between the 15th and the 17th their hatch day is on the 17th but they can come before or after that day.

Then on the 26th I have 46 more due ----- so between 70 and 88 chicks will be here by the 26th I hope

that is a LOT of chicks! How big is your coop???

Its bigger than my house lol

Its a barn but yea its longer than my house is my rooster sleeps outside, my chicks will be free ranging as soon as they are old enough.

Oooh, ooh, I want to play! I already have a Barred Rock, 2 Buff Orpingtons, a Brown Leghorn and a stray game rooster that showed up and claimed my girls. Those are all about 8 months old and laying well. I have a 2-wk old Barred Rock and supposed RIR(that's what the feed store said - are they usually pale yellow as chicks?), then last Thurs I went to TSC and picked up 1 tiny black mystery chick, 1 Cornish Rock X(gonna attempt to eat this one) and 6 assorted red pullets(we'll see what they are when they get bigger!). I also am getting 10 Ancona and 24 Blue Andalusian eggs to incubate later this week. This is going to be my first incubation, hope I will get some eggs to hatch!

I am also stalking the TSC, feed stores, and local people to see if they get new breeds of chicks in...I really want some Wyandottes, Ameraucanas, Lavender & Blue Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex. I even found a hatchery about 1.5 hours away that I can order chicks from and pick them up...my BF is in trouble, LOL. He's about to start building my coop so they will have a house and I can find everyone's eggs!

Glad to see everyone else is so addicted too!

I just found this thread and though I would join in.

I am in Decatur, Texas

I have 4 baby chicks they are Easter Eggers. I got them from our trade days in Bowie yesterday.
They are Pullets so far doing well, I set them up in a dog crate yesterday till I got them situated in a bigger cage and they are in there now.
I also have 36 eggs in the incubator right now and lock down is Wednesday I have EE's , barred rock and welsummer, rhode island red and welsummer and Rhode Island Reds.

I also have a lace wyndotte hen and roo, plymouth rock reds, Rhode Island Reds, 1 white Silkie and and black one, 4 buff cochins, 1 that looks silver with white markings not sure what she is, black Cochin. I have another roo that is a cochin I think he is a mixed breed but he is really pretty has a pretty buff color with some nice markings around his neck. He is hanging out with 2 of my Rhode Island Reds right now.
When I go out later I will see if a can get some better pics of them and post to the thread.

We have 8 baby chicks. They are 1.5 weeks old. We have 3 dark brahmas, 3 Red laced Blue Wyndottes and 2 silver laced wyndottes. I enjoy them so much, they are our first chicks and I could sit and watch them all the time. I have been so afraid that something was going to go wrong with them but they have all seemed healthy as little horses so far.

Here is where they are sleeping for now. I am hoping to build a new bigger brooder box sometime this week.

I bought some more chick starter today and it was so hard not to get some more chicks! I only have three and would love to pick up a SLW, SS or a bantam! I couldn't tell at all what the mixed bantams were though so I passed. Plus I saw how big the full grown hens were and decided that maybe three is enough.

Raising TSC babies, too. Originally, I bought 6 bantams to add to my flock, but a pair of minks (got one, waiting for the other to make a mistake) have forced me to reconstitute my flock instead.

I've also added 3 more Ameracauna/EEs, 1 oegb, 1 sebright, and 1 D'anver to the above group.

When they're old enough, they'll being joining my lone survivor, a Golden Duckwing Phoenix hen. She's lonely, but everytime she gets the chance to jump in their brooder, she gets freaked out and starts pecking them! (poor, silly girl)
