Hi Guys! I am the proud owner of an assortment of chicks.
6 mixed pullets from TSC (3 red 3 white)
and 2 Dominiques and 3 Americaunas from an awesome Hatchery here in Ohio. The TSC birds are two weeks older than the hatchery birds. The hatchery birds are one day old

What a bunch of cuties you have! I have always had trouble with having chicks shipped to me. Did all of them come in healthy?
Yes, all are very healthy so far, we had one EE that is a little slow to keep her balance but she eat's like a hog and poops like a horse and fast as lightning too. I was afraid we might lose one in shipping but so far so good, and I cannot get enough of them, TV has nothing to chickvison!
So I somehow came home with three Silkies today... Drove over an hour each way to get them. I was only going to get one, but then I got there and they were so cute and I was worried about an hour long drive with just one bird on it's own. But I have to be done now, whether I want to be or not. I have 24 chickens and an 8x10 (not even finished) coop! Though, five of them are bantams and most of them are straight run. We're only going to keep one rooster, so while the coop may be a bit crowded this summer, they'll be free ranging during the day. By the time the weather starts to get chilly we should be down to only 10-15. I've sworn off the poultry swaps and Craig's List now though.
I think that next spring I'm going to convince hubby to help me build a coop just for bantams. I love my little Silkies and D'Uccles already, and really want to add some Frizzled Cochins to them!
Brought my little babies outside again for today...and promptly noticed something wasn't "normal". ALL of their downy little heads looked...dirty. Upon closer inspection, I saw...FEATHERS!
I had to rush out to the outside hutch and "rescue" my 13 (almost) 3 week olds today! There was an awful storm that moved in and the hutch just ISN'T the most weather proof thing. It's great for warm days and nights (with a heat lamp) but that rain was a MESS
On a positive note, I had three little duck eggs hatch today!! I had to help them out (long, complex story) but they are doing well so far!
. Yesterday I got my first chicks in over 4 yrs. (Had 6 assorted and 1 duck when I lived in floria, long story short I left state for a cpl months(unplanned) when they were still young and they went rogue on me) left them to a friend when I moved to my home state, MI. Anyway we got 8 ISA Browns and 8 Barred Rocks. Box all set in the basement and they all did great over night. Kids have already started picking names..so far we have fluff and sandy. Although I'm trying to figure out a way to tell them all apart as they're so similar. Nail polish on toes? Color coding? Any suggestions??
We are finishing our plans on refinishing a 8 x 12 lean to. Excited to get that finished...so many fun ideas!!
Will try to post a pic..if I can figure out how from my phone...
I was a tad worried about the new Silkies. I've only seen one go for the water and the food, though I can't tell them apart so I have no idea if it's the same one each time or they just go one at a time. So I decided to put down paper towel and crumbles again. You would have thought I'd been starving the older ones in with them! Wow, they all just went nuts for the food. Chicks are so hilarious to watch. Anyway, all three Silkies were pecking at the crumbles and I showed them all the water again and they all drank, so I'm not so worried anymore. I can't get over how cute Silkie chicks are. On the one hand, I want them to stay tiny forever. On the other hand, they seem so tiny and fragile and I want them to be a bit bigger and sturdier. I'll have to post some pictures up of them when I get a chance.
