We got a cold snap in North Texas so our babies are huddling together in their brooder. These are our first Leghorn (Chickaletta), Welsummer (Summer) and my fave the Ameraucana (Mary).

These are our new babies. Two leghorn, an alleged golden sex link (that I think is really maybe an Isa brown), a Rhode Island red, a cuckoo maran and a Sicilian buttercup (Lucky).

Stopped at tractor supply to get chicken feed. Saw tons of baby chicks and had to leave to stop tempting my self. My chicks dont come until may 11th or 12...

Dust bath question.

Was wondering if wood ash from burning tree limbs that had been squirted with some diesel fuel to get the fire started would have any adverse affect on our chicks? Would mix the ash with dirt for their bathing pleasure. Thanks, BB

We have tons of granite around here, and some of it is easily crumbled so i figured why not.

I know what you mean this will be my first time raising chickens and mine come between Thur. and Sat and that is all I can talk about he is excited and been helping me get everything set up but I'm sure that he might be more ready than me just so that he don't have to hear me talk about it anymore ( lol )
