Spring 2017 first timers post!

Pics
Got a book from library. Going with a simple 6 bird capacity with a nice run for them. We have some acreage for them to roam.

. The only concern I have is our hunting dog. She is well trained though and I think if she sees the chicks as part of our family she will be okay.

My name is Kristen, I purchased 23 acres in Sept/16 and have decided to add my first animals to the start of my hobby farm :) I will be getting 8 Barred Rock pullets March 28/17!! I am so excited! I will take a picture of my coop and post it tomorrow

3 More Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I keep adding chicks to my order, so I've decided to stay off Meyer until Monday.
Started with 15 now at 18, I need to control myself lol. I just couldn't help it I wanted a leg bar and they had one rare Maran assortment pullet left and I want one soooo bad. Fingers crossed for a BCM.

Hi all! Finally got DH on board for our urban chickens and we have 5 babies in a brooder! Picked up two Welsummers a week ago and 3 Easter Eggers today from our local feed store. They are so cute.
In between the Welsummers and Easter Eggers, we had a Golden Laced Wynadotte chick and White Rock chick and they died. It was very heartbreaking, esp since we aren't sure WHY they died. (Both were doing great one minute, then flopping and dead the next. The other chicks - the Welsummers - were fine though.) We are hoping our current Fantastic Five do well! Watching our brooder obsessively....
Anyone else in SoCal a first timer?

Eep!!! Pioneerchick she is beeaauutiful!!! I wanted a BCM but had to settle for some Welsummers (which I think are quite pretty too) for my dark egg fix. :) what a gorgeous bird though. Her coloring is gorgeous.
