Spring 2017 first timers post!

I just switched to sand as well. I'm finding it a breeze!!!

I have been using last falls leaf harvest both in the coop and out in the run, the girls tear it up scratching and digging.
Began letting them free range and realized they have no respect for boundaries..... So much for flower beds around the house... lol

Adonis comes to mind if he is very handsome, lol. What does he look like?

Here is the one that I think is him at week old he is the odd one out all my others have distinguished wing feathers and tail feathers are starting to show and this one barely has anything and not tail feathers and I read that BO roos are slower to feather out

Apollo is a good one my oldest likes it my middle son wants Hermes so I'm waiting on the last 2 kids to get home from school and put it to a vote with those 2 names.

As it stands name wise we have

White Rocks-
Snow White
Backup (because she would only walk backwards at first the hubby named her)

Black Australorps -
Aphrodite
Selene

Buff Orpingtons-
Tiny (she was the smallest of the bunch)
Persephone
Athena

And he will be either Apollo or Hermes

Chicks are finally in the coop! but it's 97 degrees out today, what can I do to make sure they're not too hot? I put ice in their water to make sure it doesn't get hot and the coop is in the shade but I'm so worried about them. They're Rhode Island reds and old English bantams and I've read they do well in the heat but I've also read that chickens don't do well with over 90-100 weather...

Ice water, shade, dirt/sand to dust bath(it helps keep them cool) and cold melon are all great ways to keep your chicks cool.

So I've already lost two chicks.

I'm convinced it's something I've done/haven't done.

One got smushed; though it could have been weak beforehand. The other, I have no idea.

Anyone else get their chicks in the last week? How are they doing?
