Just wanted to share the growing up flock. Good luck to anyone still getting chicks this year

What breed are the gold ones with black necks?
Technically a pullet is a hen under the age of 1. However, on our farm we call them pullets until they start laying (anywhere between 5-7 months old depending on the breed). Once they start laying we call them hens. Usually between their first egg and when they turn one year old, their eggs are small so some people may still refer to them as pullets. Hope that helps!New to backyard chickens! I got my day-old babies in late April. The girls are all growing well and they're 7 weeks old and LOVING being out in the yard!
When are chicks considered "pullets?" ...and "hens?"
I would love to see some examples of small coops that have had upgrades, i.e. a larger run with a roof! Need ideas! Thanks!!

So did your straight runs end up being pullets? Would love to see pics!Well , the plan layed out in my enthusiastic first post didn't exactly go the way I was hoping. I had to throw most of the money I had saved up into my vehicle, and by the time I was able to save back up it was too late to place an order. Then my brother moved back to the area and decided that he was down for the idea. So we ended up making a run to Tractor Supply and picked up a dozen chicks. We got 2 Barred Rock pullets, 3 straight run Light Brahmas, 3 straight run Australorps, 2 Gold Laced Sebrights, 1 silkie, and 1 mystery bantam. We're going on week seventeen and they are going strong.![]()
They do look pretty! Was envying your flock!
Woo hoo! We got our first ever egg today!!
A little light blue gem from one of our four Easter Eggers named Penny. She is 18 weeks and 1 day![]()
