Oh my! I love spring! (well, I guess it isn't really spring yet) we are going to be getting some more chickies this spring. I go more for the rare and pretty breeds, more than the egg production breeds. I've been finding myself going through lists at hatcheries and adding every breed I like to my cart! It makes me get a fluttery feeling to think about all those sweet babies! Of course, I can't get everything, but the breeds I'm looking at are:
Egyptian Fayoumi
Sicilian Buttercup
Salmon Faverolles
Cream Brabranters
Easter Eggers
Silkies
Spangled Orloffs, or Speckled Sussex
Then im going to get some bantams. Looking at:
Red Pyle OEGB
Golden Neck D'uccle
I'm curious what everybody else is getting!

I'm not getting anything new.
I do have a couple of thought for your list though.
I've considered Fayoumis before but I think they would have a bit of trouble with NW MO temperatures, as would silkies IMO.
Orloffs would be great for your winters but may suffer in summer.

Yes, I've had silkies before. I heat our coop, when it gets cold, and I haven't had. Any problems. I did have some slight frostbite though when it was like -20, but it was only on the roosters big comb. I would be getting females, which hopefully wouldn't have so large of a comb.

I'm hatching more Chanteclers and maybe some Ameraucanas. I'd love a svarthona hen and maybe a Brahma hen, but unfortunately hatching those means more skinny cockerels I have to process.

I haven't had many Silkies but the ones I have had don't have issues with cold weather, and trust me, I get much more of it than you two. I still don't recommend them though.

Yeah, that's the thing. Cockerels. I love hatching out chicks u der the hens, and I can only get bantams in straight run. But sometimes I think it's worth it!

I’ve ordered a round of Modern Game bantams and bantam Sultans for this coming April.

But my chick fever hit an all time high and made me put over 30 eggs into an incubator a little while ago... and they should hatch before the month is out...:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy They will almost all be Japanese or Jap crosses.
I actually have a broody hen right now! Will you believe it? I wouldn't dare let her hatch in this weather! I order some Modern Game bantams last year. Ordered from Ideal Poultry. Of course, all the pictures are drawn, and of course hatchery birds are not at all like the standard. They have a tad longer legs than a regular bird, but definitely not the super tall, look like they are on stilts look! I ordered Self Blue.

Compared to my Japs, they’ll look super leggy. And darn, I was hoping for some real leggy critters, I’ve also ordered an assortment through Ideal in a split shipment with a friend. Are their personalities decent? Thats what matters most, happy birds that let me bother them and take pictures.

The hens are very docile. I spent equal time with all of my breeds as chicks, and they were just tame from the beginning! I only ordered four. One died, one was a rooster, and two were hens. The rooster was very friendly, until he got older, and he got kind of aggressive. I trained him out of it, and he is a great rooster! I think they're different from OEGb personalities, because they were never actually bred for fighting.
