Hi! So I am going to clean out the chicken coop on the first day of spring, Saturday the 20th! Will you join me? I thought it would be fun to clean our chicken coops all on the same day! If you want, post pictures of your clean coop! (Bonus points with before and after pictures!) Also I will be doing a general cleaning for the chickens that day. It seems like a fun way to start the spring off fresh. I have a larger coop (not too big, 40’ feet) so I clean it only a few times a year. If you participate, hope you enjoy! Let’s welcome the new season with clean coops, happy chickens, and joyful hearts! I look forward to seeing you around!

Our week's weather is supposed to be inching near 60, but our weekend highs are in the low 40's! That being said, I really need to get out and start "coopifying" our shed into a coop! There's hardly anything in it we want to keep, mostly old gardening supplies left by previous homeowners (we've been here 13 years and still haven't cleaned it out).... Then need to clean and cut ventilation, popdoor hole hole, etc...It's going to be a busy April and probably May, I think the brooder situation will hold the chicks for 4-5 weeks....fingers crossed! Also have to completely build the run!

I would love to join! I might not get to it though. (rainy WA weather) What type of cleaning will you do?
Ah yes, rainy Washington weather. It does say rain that day (at least where I am) but hopefully there will be a break in the rain (or I’ll just have to get a little wet) I’m planning to be replacing bedding, scrubbing roosts, washing windows, general deep cleaning. Feel free to do whatever you want, or just spend a little extra time with your flock!

My clean outs are done in April & Oct. Reason being I'm trying to aim for days that aren't too cold and not too rainy, so my wood chips aren't completely soaked (as that's the coop bedding), and 6 months apart. Yet I want it close to winter as possible for the really thorough clean out in the fall so things are as clean in there as possible for winter, when they birds may need to coop up here and there depending on the weather.

Sigh, yes, I've thought about clean out timing too much!

Just did mine a couple weeks ago when I wrote the article so it's hopefully good until the new coop is built -- but I am adding bedding tomorrow (it's raining today).

I was planning on morphing the pen to give them some fresh ground. I'll have to do that in the rain today because I'm getting pine straw washing down against the fence and interrupting the circuit. :(

I'll look forward to seeing people's photos!
