Spring coop cleaning - To bleach or not to bleach

I don't bleach either, and I think maybe, since you have a smaller coop, those bleach fumes might not be so good for your hens.

Oh, here's what I do for my roosts....They are 2x4s, and I have this sponge type sand paper block thingy, and I rub it on the roost, and it cleans it off very well. (Wait until the poo stains are dry though.) It just sands the stains right off. It does require some elbow grease though....But it's pretty easy.

Oxine...hands down. I however do not overdo it. I only use it in coops if changing out flocks. I do use it between hatches in the incubator and brooders between broods. It can also be used as a mist to treat birds with respiratory infections(I've never had to do this though).

Keep in mind though that this technique is also used to purposely rust metals. This is one reason I don't use it, especially in my incubators and hatchers.

Theresa Sedmak at Everbrite Coatings in Reno, Nevada recommends this to their customers who wish to have premature rust before applying a finish coat.

Definitely no mold in my coop...which is small, raised and seemingly well ventilated enough...

I use deep litter method, and I can't recall that I've ever bleached it, or even washed the walls for that matter. Never had a problem in 15 years so I'd say it's unnecessary.
