So who's going to the Spring Fling Exhibition Poultry Show in Hamilton this year? It's on May 14th at the Ravalli County Fair Grounds, it's an APA/ABA sanctioned show and the judges will be Lou Horton, Pat Lacy, and Gary Overton. The field day will be taught and organized by Jim Adkins.

Ok, this should be a fun show!

I'm just curious to see who's going to be there, if your bringing any birds, and what kind? I'm personally going without birds (don't have any until fall

). My plan is to meet new ppl, pick the judges brains

, and talk to any poultry breeders who will put up with my Q's, lol!

I'm going! I'll be showing a couple ameraucanas.

Don't know if I will have chicks to bring, I have had alot of egg and chicks orders to fill, so not alot left over....

This is my favorite show of the year!

I can't wait! However, my spectacular double tufted rumples Araucana rooster decided to get into a fight about a week ago and lost one tuft and bloodied up his comb, so I probably won't bring anything to show, but I can't wait to see everyone's beautiful birds.

OOOOH! Pips&peeps, I'd love to see your Americana's!

What variety are they?

cackleberrycoop, you'll have to show me a picture of your Araucana roo. He sounds like he's very pretty! Too bad he can't make it to the show,

I would have loved to see him in person!

So what's the show like? I've never been to this one. Is it a very large show? What's the field day like?

Here he is. Sigh. He really was SOMETHING before he went all testosterone crazy....
I should get a new picture of him now. He still struts around in the same "look at me" manner, but now he's got these horrific stubby feather shafts sticking out the side of his head. It's pretty hysterically terrible looking. He is not an accepted color variety, so he would have been entered as AOV and I only dreamed of showing him after I found out that Steve Waters and his fantastic Araucanas were not going to make it to this year's show - my boy could not hold a candle to those chickens. Such a shame Steve can't be there - that man's birds are so inspiring. Perhaps there will be someone else with Araucanas to show. I really, really hope so. I drove all the way to Great Falls last year in hopes of finding Araucanas at that show, but no such luck......

Last years show was relatively small, but the quality of the birds brought to compete...., well, wow, it was amazing! So much to learn and of course, who of us can't use a little kick in the pants to step it up a notch?
I think in the case of pips@peeps, it more a question of what Ameraucana color variety DOESN'T she breed. I am very excited to see what you bring to this years show.

bantiebaby, how long a drive is it to Hamilton from Ennis?

My son and I will be there! He breeds blue cochins and wants to look at what other breeds he may want to breed.

I think he's well worth the adoration, you give him cackleberrycoop! What variety is he? I think it should be a recognized variety because it's really gorgeous! It always did seem like true Araucana's were hard to find in Montana.

Hey, do you sell Araucana hatching eggs, by chance? I might be interested in about a 1/2 dozen next spring, if you have some to spare?

Are you going to be at the Great Falls show this fall? My dear hubby promised nothing would get in the way of that one!

I'm so sad!

I was just about to get ready for the trip to Hamilton last night and my husband said he couldn't go because his project for work wasn't done yet due to some technical problems!

He wanted to go so bad though, so I decided to stay home so wouldn't feel left out. You know your devoted to your spouse when you stay home from a chicken show (even though you havn't been able to go to one in over 16 years) to make him feel better, lol! Please, tell me how it went everyone! I'd love to see pictures and comments about the fun!

Edited to correct spelling.
