Spring order for silkies help

Thank you fattie and can you.... for teh responses. I'm still stuck. I would like to just buy chicks to raise them myself and know what goes into them etc. As far as eggs i was looking on here last night at the breeder eggs and thats a little over my budget. I am not looking for show quality just some good pets. I still am looking in to Cackle but also into my budget lines of breeder eggs. Does anyone have any pictures from cackle they wouldn't mind sharing? Thank you. Dusty

I can't give a very productive post, just wanted to add that I've prefered breeder-Silkies over hatchery ones. My from-breeders birds are much calmer and so huggable. I will not say that they were cheap, but very worth it. Keep an open eye out in the auction section. You'd be able to grab a few eggs at a reasonable price every so often. Regardless, good luck.

Bobbi Porto in FL (IndigoEgg on here) sells chicks for $10 each and has many colors.

As a matter of fact I took some today. They aren't the best pictures and want to add that they aren't show birds by far but my favorite black silkie is a good looking healthy girl.

Hope you think they look alright. One looks great, the other two not the best but I also lost 5 other chicks that looked better to a blacksnake. We did finally catch that snake with my best looking white silkie chick in its stomach.

can you hear me now? :

Bald Mexican? Cheech? Cheech Marin, is this you?

although my experience with silkies is very limited i am going to chime in. You said you would like to sell offspring, you have said most of the breeder eggs are over your budget. Now thinking about it, if you want to sell chicks or eggs you could sell eggs from breeder stock better then hatchery stock. Even if you were to sell 12 eggs on here if you had bought Bobbi Porto you could sell them as "Silkie Eggs from Bobbi Porto Lines" vs "Silkie Eggs, Hatchery Stock" thus being able to sell them at a higher price. Animals (wether horse, cow, chicken, duck, rabbit) are an investment, and buying from breeders is a worthy investment. I have one silkie, a hatchery silkie, but i want her for brooding eggs, so i didn't care. Hope this helps

I was surprised that they all had 5 toes and blue/black skin for hatchery birds.. I just wanted silkies for pets not show.. I plan on getting more from Ideal next spring...

those all are real pretty chickens. They don't look bad at all.
I'm in the process of finding someone for next year to shp me some. Or if someone wants they can send me a message and tell em teh price. And everybody here has me talked into show quality so I guess I will go with those. Thanks.

what part of tn are you in eastern or western ? are you wanting pets, breeders or show birds. I have eggs now and chicks but not enough chicks to ship and shipping is expensive. If you are in the western part of TN we might be able to meet at some point. or I can ship eggs. here are some of my birds
