springtime post your new chick pics

Aw, they are so cute. That must be some fun watching. I've raised some from chicks sent in the mail. None of my hens will sit on eggs long enough. How do you find a hen that will sit on eggs? Or can you teach them? IDK

Just purchased six road island reds and 6 black austrolorps last week. I will try to get some pictures up soon. I love looking at all the pictures of the chicks you all have.

What kind of hens do you have? Some breeds of chickens are non-sitting.

We got 31 chicks 6 weeks ago today. A wide array of breeds is what we decided on to see what we like best. Five each of Black Australorps, Light Brahmas, Red Productions, White Leghorns, Barred Rocks, and we got 6 Buff Orpingtons. We lost one White Leghorn at 3 weeks and we have no idea why. They all arrived popping out of the box like ping pong balls and never had any problems and then that one chick came up lethargic in the morning and an hour later she was dead. Very frustrating. Anyway, I have posted a couple different pics at different ages. So far, I like them all...we'll see about egg production and adult behavior, because right now they are all crazy!

They are hard to take a group pic of since they want to gather around my feet!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

I have 2 reds, 1 buff, 1 lace, 1 welsummer, 1 plymouth rock, 1 Araucana, 2 easter and of course a rooster. I was just reading an article about letting them collect eggs in a nest, or putting fake eggs in, or setting up a nest in a dark place. I have seen the reds sitting the longest. I don't get enough eggs to sell, so letting them gather wouldn't be a problem.

So, this post is the best yet the wors idea EVER. It made me go and get 3 more babies. I wanted 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes and when I went to a feed store for some fencing supplies for the hubby, they had just gotten an order in. How can you resist. It was like it was meant to be. Oh, there was one lone Black star in the group and so I got her too.

This is my little Jada. She was the only Black star. I have a pair of each breed I bought except her.

This is my loner out of my last hatch, Uno. I started with 8 eggs, 5 were crushed in transit :(, so I doubtfully set the other 3. Uno is the sole survivor. He/she will join my 4 BAs who are 6 weeks old in a few more weeks.
