I was wondering if sprouted foods would be as good as free ranging I don't think my yard will be good enough as a supplement so maybe some sprouted seeds/beand would be good. I have sprouted black oil sunflower seeds and doing small beans. I want the health benifits of free ranging.

I keep small hookbills (lovebirds, parakeets and parrotlets) and I toss a LOT of seed every week that they pick over and want fresh food the next day. I was thinking about sprouting it for the chickens too... but haven't gotten that far. Seems a waste to toss it. It is expensive and they waste a lot, but I give them free choice especially when they are feeding young. Any tips on sprouting seeds?

I sprouted some seeds for my girls this winter. Using the tray technique: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Sustainable-Farming/1984-01-01/More-Eggs-in-Winter.aspx

At
first they weren't too sure, but did enjoy them once they got a taste

I am always paranoid that my hens get what they need. I feed them pellets (which they eat the heck out of), some scratch and hand fulls of grass clippings sometimes. I think i would love to do the bean sprout thing so what beans do best and can they eat hay? Alfalfa bricks? So excited to be here and don't know if i put this in right spot. HELP HELP Thanks in advance for your patience with the newbie.
