Spurs almost grown back into roosters leg

They are like nails. If it turns light pink, stop! If you do accidently cut too close, stop the blood by dunking the wound with flour or Qwik Stop. Best to take a little bit off each time.

You just have to be careful not to cut the quick, it would be kinda hard though cause you would have to cut a lot off. I just cut the tip so there was no pain or blood. Quick and easy.

Hello, what you could do is hold the rooster up, take a lighter light it and bring the flame near the joint of the spur keep spinning the lighter around the spurs all the way for about a few minutes until it becomes loose and then your could just take it off easily i mean it will get loose and just come in your hand the whole thing. I have tried this method a few times and it works the best rather than sniping it off with a blade so the spur will come off almost all the way and there will be a new one right under it that will start growing. I would recommend this method. Please try it and tell me how it goes and if you need any help please pm me. Hopefully you will be happy with the results.

just edited to say that there is barely any bleeding in this method.

i guess so but it's better for the rooster it removes the spur and there's barely any pain if you do it right and it doesn't grow back for a long time.

Well it kind of gets like redish beside the spur and you can put like little pieces of clothing or cotton and tape it there for a few day's after that it will start to regrow by it self.

I wouldn't burn it if you are not skilled in de-budding or de-spurring.

Instead, take a bright lamp and hold the roo's leg in front of it so you can see through the spur and see where the "quick" (where nerves and blood vessels are) is so you can avoid cutting it. Then, take a pair of sharp gardener's bypass-style pruning shears (cheap to buy at Home Depot or garden center) and snip the spurs off leaving at least 1/4 of an inch of the spur beyond the quick.

It will grow back over time, but it's really easy to snip off the spurs just like trimming fingernails (which you also have to be careful not to cut too close to the quick).
