Spurs on Hens?

Hey Dudes,

some of you who respond to my questions often know who Doris is, because I mention her so much. Anyway, Doris has a spur! When we got her I noticed another one that was breaking off, but I just thought it was normal, and that it was an extra toe.
Is it normal for a hen to have a spur? Do most of them have spurs?

Yes, hens can grow spurs! Not all that common, but it happens. They can also crow like a rooster!

All chickens have spur buds. These develop into spurs in almost all roosters and also in some hens. In my experience spurs have been more common in game or game cross hens.

Yes, I've experienced them 'crowing' to be honest I actually don't know what they do. But have you guys had that experience where you wake up at 5am because one of them just laid an egg, and they're full on screeching?
they also do that as a warning I think.
