I am sorry hun. I have heard about this with appendicitis in humans. One minute you're in lots of abdominal pain and swollen up huge, then you feel better. A lot better like nothing is wrong, then dead of septic shock.

What happens is as the infection spreads your body fights it by creating an abscess around it to isolate the bacteria. as the wound grows it can cause stretching of the abscess that your body will repair but the growth gets huge. Then finally the hard sac that surrounds it bursts. The ruptured abscess kills by unleashing massive amounts of bacteria but with the pressure and inflammation gone you feel much better.

Just know she didn't die in any pain.

I found my hen this morning looking exactly like yours and all the same symptoms. I went to the coup opened the door. She was the only one left on the roost. When she tried to get down she fell to the floor. She is just standing around. She tries to poop but can't . She is still drinking. I am going to try the apple cider vinegar. Hopefully it works. I can't spend the money on a vet either. And I don't think I could cull her myself.

Nevermind. Went out to check on her before bed----she had passed on.
