So, I'm debating on getting one, but it looks like their customer service sucks and they often hold funds for up to 90 days! Does anyone use it on a small scale and have any input? I'm debating if it wouldn't just be safer and easier to just use paypal's credit card services instead.

Well, I have a paypal card reader on the way. Similar fee structure as the square, but a more trusted source than a business like the square who's been around less than two years with several reports against them!

I was just at a jewelry party and the hostess used one of those. She loved it, but then again I don't think she has had it for longer than a couple of months and hasn't had any problems to try to solve with the company.

I use the paypal card reader for my business. It works perfectly. I got the Square first but when it took 5 days for the money to show up in my account on the first use, I stopped and deleted my account. When I swipe a card now with the paypal reader, I immediately, and I mean IMMEDIATELY, get an email that tells me I have received the payment. The money is there instantly. When I arrive back at the office, I login and transfer the money to my bank account. Paypay says "allow 3-4 days for transfer" but so far, the money has been there the next morning every time. The paypal reader also allows me to send instant receipt right from the app to my clients by text message or email. I'll never use any other reader. As with any reader, you do need FAST cell service (4G or LTE) or a wifi connection for it to work. I was at a venue recently where the service was "E" or Edge. It was too slow and the reader failed.
